Week 2 Inquiry Learning Topic

This week the hook for our Inquiry Learning unit on Aotearoa is about New Zealand history and Maori Culture. Mrs James, who teach from Room 9, organised a wonderful experience for us this morning. She chose a group of middle and senior school students to help us experience rakau sticks, poi dances, and trying on the kapahaka uniforms. Thanks Mrs James. We had fun.

Richmond ANZAC Service

This morning Mrs Eden went to the ANZAC Service in Richmond. She was very proud to see Richmond School children placing poppies and to hear Mrs
Armstrong and the school choir sing
 "Lest we Forget".
(You can see Mrs Armstrong's red cardigan in the upper part of this photo.)

This hand print wreath was made by representatives
from each class in our school.

Our School ANZAC Service

This morning we had our school ANZAC Service.
The choir sang "Lest We Forget".
We enjoyed the poem about what the ANZAC Poppy
stands for but it is also sad.
Mr Irvine explained to us about ANZAC.

 Lots of parents  came.
Oliver Armstrong played the Last Post and Reveille
while the flag was lowered and raised again.
He is Mrs Armstrong's son.

Here is our poem for this week.

School Photos

This morning Steve and Dan the school photographers came to take our class and individual photos for 2015. After it was our turn Mrs Eden got us to use her camera and the iPads to take photos of each other.
Here we are holding the poppies we have made to wear at our school ANZAC service tomorrow. We are also munching on an ANZAC biscuit. Yummy!!

We like being photographers.

ANZAC Stories

ANZAC
We are learning about ANZAC Day. We saw the medals. I felt sad for the soldiers. Some died. Some survived. The ones that survived I felt very proud of. I saw guns. I saw the nurse and her army ambulance. When the army people get hurt they will come to her and she will help them.
Jenna.
ANZAC Day is when people wear a poppy to remember those who died for us because 100 years ago some people died. Police wear a poppy. We have made some poppies.

ANZAC Display

This morning we arrived at school to a big surprise. The teachers had organised a fantastic display about ANZAC and Gallipoli to launch our Inquiry Learning topic on Aotearoa.
We would like to especially thank all the people in our community who shared their historic vehicles, guns, medals,  uniforms and wisdom. We are really looking forward to developing our knowledge and understanding.
