Discovery Time 29 May

Today Mrs Cribb came to be our teacher again while Mrs Eden was writing our mid year reports. Last week Mrs Eden talked to her about Discovery Time and Mrs Cribb thought she would like to see how we work and develop our Key Competencies. Here are some photos of our activities today. Look at the constellations we made with marshmallows and toothpicks.

Discovery Time Thursday 22 May

Today we had Discovery Time. Our Key Competency Focus this Term is Participating And Contributing.
We are learning to include everyone in our activities, value the opinions and ideas of others, take responsibility for our environment and help with cleaning up at the end of the session.
Today some of our activities included: Making rocket shape sandwiches, letter writing, dough sculptures, sewing on hessian, puppet shows, marbles, klikko, duplo, space colouring pictures and computer skills.
Thank you Angela for coming to parent help. We appreciated your support at the sewing table.

Thursday 15 May

Kahn is really enjoying the Space Inquiry unit. He learns all day at school and then he goes home and learns some more. Look at this amazing space shuttle he made last night.
Ruby and Grace keep learning at home as well. They go on to the Mathletics site and today they got their first certificates. Well done  girls. You are champions.

Look at this model of the planets orbiting the sun. We enjoyed observing this in our room today.
We could listen to facts about each planet.

Waka ama

On Friday afternoon Graeme came to talk to our Syndicate about Waka ama. He has been to many competitions and he showed us medals he has won. He showed us a movie about waka ama racing. It looks hard, but lots of fun. We learned some new words about the waka. Kiato is the stem that holds the ama on to the waka. The pae manu is the seat. The hoe is the paddle. Thank you Graeme.
